Opening Information 2010-2011

Expository Composition is a required course in twelfth grade with prerequisite required courses American Literature and Contemporary Composition. According to the Secondary Literary Branch of the Los Angeles Unified School District, "the major purpose of this semester course is to provide experiences in writing that are characterized by logical and coherent organization, clarity of expression, and suitability in style, usage, and the conventions of writing." Further, students will read expository and informational genres such as essays, biographies, critiques, precis, and newspaper and magazine articles to determine literal and implied meaning and to demonstrate through classroom discussion, oral presentation, and written expression an understanding of the text(s). The course also features the essential skills of editing.

The Senior Project, featuring a research paper, a letter of intent, a physical project and an oral presentation are required during this semester.
